Democracy

Democracy is embedded at the school. Children are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen to and acknowledge different opinions through speaking and listening activities. Children can give opinions and ideas through our School Council. The elections of the School Council members are based solely on pupil votes, reflecting our British electoral system and demonstrating democracy in action.

The School Council meet regularly under the supervision of a teacher to discuss issues raised by individuals and classes. Children at Paddock are able to influence change within the school.

The Rule of Law

The importance of rules and laws for the class, the school or the country, are reinforced. All rules are clearly understood by all so that all children can learn in a safe and happy environment. Also, within our Computing curriculum, there is a strong emphasis on E-Safety, where the children are taught to keep themselves safe whilst also being respectful to other users of the Internet.

E-Safety is also promoted amongst our parents and within the community.

Individual Liberty

Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely through the provision of a safe environment and an empowering education. Our children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely; for example; in our clubs, over night residential visits, E-Safety, SRE and PSHE lessons.

Mutual Respect

Respect is one of the core values of our school and it is deeply embedded in our class rules and all that we do at the school. The children know and understand that it is expected and imperative that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have.

Tolerance of those with different Faiths And Beliefs

We believe that the diversity at Paddock Junior, Infant and Nursery School is something to be celebrated. We enhance children's understanding of different faiths and beliefs through Religious Education studies; assemblies for special occasions for a variety of faiths; and visits to places of worship for various faiths. Beliefs, traditions and customs are explored, with visitors being invited in to our school to enrich and extend understanding. Through this, our children gain an enhanced understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society.
